Throughout its history, the Air Jordan 1 Mid has been worn with many different outfits, some of which are based on styles with a long history. Recently, the lifestyle-focused silhouette came out in a mix of white, blue, and red colors arranged in a way that reminded me of a Union Los Angeles collaboration from 2018.

This sneaker is a cool mix of a classic design and something new
Even a quick look should clear up any doubts that the newly-found retro has anything to do with the team led by Chris Gibbs, but the similarities between the two can’t be ignored. Jordan Brand’s solo effort doesn’t have any bright yellow, but it does have deep blue panels around the forefoot, along the tongue, and across the lower heel, just like Union LA’s “Storm Blue” Air Jordan 1. The collar has ruby-colored underlays, but it doesn’t have the branded ankle flaps that the possible muse does. Instead of “NIKE AIR” text, the logos on the tongue are shaped like Jumpmans, and the soles have a sort of “aged” look. Last, the traction has the same blue color as the upper, making this new version of Peter Moore’s 37-year-old design even more interesting.

Termination
As is often the case when new Air Jordans come out, a lot of attention is paid to these mid versions. Aside from the obvious similarities to the Air Jordan 1, this new shoe might even start to look like Nikelab’s latest shoe. It will be interesting to see how this news affects how they work together in the future.
